Town and village halls split local business on the North Shore, so the right phone number depends on your address. This page lists the halls, their phones and their hours as the town and village sites post them. It belongs to the moving checklist, and the same contacts matter for beach and park permits and trash and recycling.
Who runs what: town versus village
The Town of Oyster Bay is the easternmost of the three towns in Nassau County. It is the only Nassau County town that reaches from the North Shore to the South Shore. The 2020 census counted 301,332 people in it.
The Town’s own page separates incorporated villages from unincorporated areas. Glen Head, Greenvale, Jericho, Locust Valley, Syosset and Woodbury are on its unincorporated list, along with East Norwich, Glenwood Landing and Oyster Bay itself. For those hamlets the Town is the local government to call. A village keeps its own hall and phone line, so check which one covers your address before you call.
The Town has a supervisor and a six-member town council. Council members are elected town-wide, and there are no election districts. The town clerk and receiver of taxes are elected positions too.
