The Harbor in Roslyn Harbor reflects its proximity to Hempstead Harbor. Properties run 1 to 2 acres, and many houses have water views or back onto a golf course or the former Gold Coast estate that is now the Nassau County Museum of Art. This page gives a buyer or renter the numbers first: home values, rents, the two school districts and the cesspool rule that shapes every purchase. It belongs to the North Shore towns and borders Roslyn, Roslyn Heights and Greenvale.

Schools: Roslyn and North Shore districts
Roslyn Harbor is served by both the Roslyn Union Free School District and the North Shore Central School District.
North Shore CSD reports 2,541 K-12 public school students for 2024-25, a four-year graduation rate of 98% and spending of $44,643 per pupil. Roslyn UFSD reports 3,329 K-12 public school students for 2024-25. The NYSED profiles for North Shore and Roslyn carry the full figures, and the North Shore school districts guide sets them beside the other districts. Library service follows the same split: the Roslyn library district (Bryant Library) serves the Roslyn school district portions, and the Gold Coast Library District (Gold Coast Public Library in Glen Head) serves the North Shore portions.
Property taxes and STAR
The Town of North Hempstead’s Office of the Receiver of Taxes bills and collects all Town, County, School and Special District taxes within the town. The town lists the first half of the 2026-2027 school tax as due November 10. For county-wide mechanics, see Nassau County property taxes.
New owners register for the STAR credit with the NYS Tax Department as soon as the home becomes their primary residence, and the Basic or Enhanced credit follows from what they qualify for. The STAR exemption is closed to new applicants: owners who have received it since 2015 keep it on the same primary residence. The home must be the primary residence of an eligible owner. The Basic STAR credit has a $500,000 income limit, and the benefit is based on the first $30,000 of a home’s full value. Enhanced STAR gives owners 65 and older a larger benefit, with an income limit of $110,750 for the 2026-2027 school year.
Cesspools, water and the harbor
No sanitary sewers serve Roslyn Harbor, and the entire village relies on cesspools and septic systems.
Water comes mostly from the Roslyn Water District, with smaller areas in the Glenwood Water District and the Jericho Water District. The village sits in the Hempstead Harbor watershed. It covers 1.2 square miles, all of it land. Its lowest point is Hempstead Harbor, at sea level, and its highest is 234 feet, just southwest of Dogwood Avenue and Spruce Street. PSEG Long Island provides power to all properties, and National Grid provides gas to buildings hooked up to gas lines.
Getting around: Greenvale station and buses
The Greenvale station on the LIRR Oyster Bay Branch is located primarily within the Village of Roslyn Harbor. A short-lived North Roslyn station was also formerly located within present-day Roslyn Harbor, along the same branch. For station details and service patterns, see the LIRR Oyster Bay Branch guide and the Greenvale page.
The village is served by the n20H, n21 and n27 bus routes, all operated by Nassau Inter-County Express. Northern Boulevard (NY 25A) forms much of the southern border, and the village owns and maintains about 4.75 miles of roads.
Parks, museum and history
Cedarmere, the former William Cullen Bryant estate, is now a park and preserve, and it forms the Cedarmere-Clayton Estates Historic District with the Clayton property. The Long Island Rail Road once advertised the area as the “Switzerland of Long Island,” and an earlier proposed village name, Roslyn Hills, came from that hilly setting. Other landmarks include the Greenridge-Arthur Williams House, and the private Engineers Country Club sits in the village. Roslyn Harbor incorporated as a village on October 17, 1931, because residents wanted their own zoning codes under the Municipal Home Rule Law. The estate owners chose a separate village because their needs differed from those of the more densely populated Village of Roslyn. A new Nassau County charter in 1936 ended that route: no village has been incorporated in the Town of North Hempstead since.
Village government and services
Roslyn Harbor is a village in Nassau County, located mostly in the Town of North Hempstead with small sections in the Town of Oyster Bay. The parts in North Hempstead are in that town’s 2nd council district, while the Oyster Bay portions are represented at-large on the Oyster Bay Town Council. The village is in Nassau County’s 11th Legislative district. As of July 2026, the mayor is Sandy K. Quentzel. The village office is at 500 Motts Cove Road South, Roslyn Harbor, NY 11576.
